Things that annoy me about a ben gibbard showing

• He seems very full of himself
• When he plays “i’ll follow you into the dark” all the girls pull out their cell phones and call their boy…
• The girl next to me closes her eyes and looks like she’s about to cry when he plays “i’ll follow you into the dark”
• you cant hear him sing over the crowd, because everybody wants to show off that they know the words from all the songs on the plans album plus ’such great heights’
• I dont enjoy his piano style. Too choppy for comfort.
• At least 5 people broke the rule of wearing a band shirt at the bands show… people had on death cab shirts and then some people went and bought ben gibbard shirts and put them on over their other shirt.
• Ben Gibbard or DCFC fans hate openers and are usually very rude…
• It’s full of people who think they know music just because they like DCFC and postal service and it’s classified as indie pop, so they think nobody knows about them but them.
• And just in general, i hate at any show when people take pictures with their cellphone and it just looks like a big bright blur with lights all around, but they still set it as their background.

I enjoy ben gibbard and his work, it’s just the crowd i don’t enjoy…

Well today at work the store manager, the big guy, was talking to me, asking me if i ever signed some papers for training, and i said no, so we went over to the computer to sign the papers, and i did all the signing, and somehow he knew i was at a concert this weekend although i never told anyone and he asked me how it was and we were having a normal conversation. Then out of nowhere he goes, so have you ever thought about maybe getting a hair cut? … and i said ” uhh no i havn’t, i prefer it long” … and he’s like oh yeah, how come… and i’m like, “well I’m really self conscious with short hair, it makes me look younger and even more skinny than i already am” and he’s like … okay, well maybe you can just get it trimmed… and just cause i knew it would be awkward if i just straight out said  “no, I’m not going to get it trimmed” i said …yeah maybe…. and he says … i have nothing wrong with it personally, i just think it’s getting a little long for sears…. and i told him pretty much exact words….  yeah  i recall when you hired me you asked me to cut my hair and trim my beard, and i did cause i thought it was part of the dress code, but i read the dress code and hygiene code from the manual and it was my understanding that you can have long hair as long as it’s professional and appropriate, and i style my hair in a way that is consumer friendly, so i dont really see a problem…. and he is a little hesitant… yeah, well it is professional and appropriate… but we have to take in account the majority of our costumers are conservative and they prefer people with shorter hair… and i could have just been like ” well i think you are stereotyping our costumers or how can you know that our costumers are conservative unless you poll them as they buy something… or tell him that i haven’t gotten any negative responses about my hair from costumers, and plus conservative costumers are usually outspoken, so if they didn’t like my hair and thought it was unprofessional, they would have told me… or maybe pull out the old… if it’s unprofessional how come i’m alternating  number 1 and 2 in sales most weeks with a low return rate” … but i chose to end the awkward conversation and just say, yeah, I’ll think about getting it trimmed…. but i’ll let the blogosphere know that i’m not going to cut a fucking cm of my hair to conform to an unstated-dress-code based on stereotypes. fuck sears, just cause i have long hair means i’m liberal… thats a stereotype if i ever heard one… even if i am liberal, which i prefer to think of myself as compared to conservative… but if they fire me because of my hair, i’m thinking i can have a nice little discrimination case on my hands… or is there some law that protects companies from this?? … but my understanding is that if i follow the dress code presented to us by sears, and they fire me for reasons not under that dress code, then it is a form of discrimination. But they would have to tell me that they are firing me because of my apperance first… so if they do fire me, i’ll be sure to ask them why. hopefully they come out with ” your hair is too long” and i’ll say ” ok, thats fine, write that on my termination papers and sign it please” … then we go to judge judy!!

arcade fire show this week… hell yeah brother!

oh yeah, i preorder the avett brothers cd and then i got it in the mail a few days ago, and it was sealed, and i opened it up, and there was no fucking cd in the case… i was so bummed, that was the one thing i was looking forward to all week… but they are sending me a new one…

did i ever tell you about the time when some guy came up to me in tools, and asked me to get him like a screwdriver or something small, so i did, and i was ringing him up, he’s like “oh yeah!, add these to it…” and he unclenched his fist and put some panties on the counter , and he holds them up and  says “get a load of these, see through, oh man, cant wait to see my wife in these…” oh yeah, those are hot i replied, and he says ” well i hope i got the right size, i dont know what size she wears, but they look about right” … it was just your stereotypical redneck who has never seen a pair of see through panties in real life, only on the tv movies. smelt like he has a sauna where cigarette smoke creates the humidity and so much grease on his hands that it’s permanently engraved in the cracks and creases. i deal with these people everyday. they are really thankful that i’m ‘gitten er dun’.

Well today is the day that the new avett brothers cd comes out. and i’m very excited, i ordered it online, but it wont be here for like 4-5 days.

Gonna go see ben gibbard on saterday in portland, i read his set list, and it’s not bad at all. playing some postal service, and maybe a cover from out favorite Seattle rockers…

i’m gonna start slicking my hair back with a whole lot of gel, la looks with aloe. i’ll need the strongest hold they got.

I just got the new Travis cd and was very much surprised with how good it was. Not sure what kind of reviews its getting, but hopefully if these music critics know what they are doing, this cd should be doing rather well. I’ve been enjoying Travis since 2001 when invisible band came out, and the new cd is a definite step up. give it a listen

and also if you havn’t heard, New Moon by elliott smith is wonderful.

especially when you’re stressed out with work and school, and don’t really have anybody else to comfort you and nobody calls you to see how you’re doing,then pop in some elliott and just think about killing yourself instead of actually doing it. and i suppose if we killed ourselves , then we wouldn’t get to listen to the new white stripes,ryan adams, iron and wine, avett brothers and hives cds coming out soon.

who wants to go??

not just who WANTS to go, but who WILL go with me to a decemberists show on july 22 … it’s a sunday, and it’s in troutdale oregon, it’s a nice sit down lawn venue like britt, and band of horses are opening… 35 dollar tickets… but it will be a nice relaxed show…. let me know asap…anyone see the new ryan adams cd cover???

suprise!

out of curiously and a lack of patience. i went to circuit city to see if they might have the new(old) Eliott Smith cd ‘new moon’ , which i already pre ordered  online because i thought for sure noone would have it, but they had it a circuit city, and so i bought it. Any big elliott fan has already heard like 90% of the album, but it sounds aaaalott better than the demo and live versions i have. i think i’ll fall in love with elliott all over again. and i’ll probably go listen to it in the graveyard on holloween ….

Jason webley will be playing in Ashland on Wednesday if anybody wants to go watch a show….

Just got back from bright eyes and kings of leon show. Both great shows. and oakley hall opened for bright eyes and that was a nice little treat. And me and mike got front row for kings of leon, i’ve seen them with bob dylan, and at coachella from a distance, but its completly different being so close to them. Man, they are such charmers, oh no.

We saw a bum lady both days we were there who looked like wario… and then a phat frontbutt. and then we got this song stuck in our heads.

rock and roll Mcdonalds

well here i am, back from the land of disney and also what i like to call ’sweat-fest 07 ‘(coachella).  over 100 degrees out and 100,000 people crammed into a ’small’ area.  didn’t get to see everyone we wanted to because of scheduling conflicts but we still saw the important ones:

the cribs/ the fratellies/new pornographers/kings of leon/arcade fire/red hot chili peppers/black keys (he has a beard now)

and we caught a glimpse of, or heard a little bit of Travis/regina spektor(she sounded terrible)/jacks mannequin/ the rapture…

then drove home yesterday night. 13 hour drive. rock and roll mcdonalds and starbucks kept me going both on the way there and back. thanks.
Then this little treat from the white stripes. who decided to tour mostly Canada which dissapoints me

Going to see bright eyes and kings of leon this week in portland.
