$9 gets you into one of the most moving shows you’ll ever see, but none of you were there! Just sam and I, and some other foxy ladies. Speaking of foxy, the show you guys missed was fleet foxes, and it was pretty cool. Very mature audience for the most part, it’s nice to create an enviroment where the artists can just roam around or sit at the bar and not be interrupted by star-stricken fans. Nor were there a bunch of little teenagers singing along to every song.21 and over is for the better, all you minors no need to be bitter, once you reach 21 you will completely understand.
Robin (the singer) didn’t miss a note, and he hit em’ with POWER. He sang three songs by himself, and although he appeared a little nervous, he was flawless. And his bashfulness was pretty cute. Sam and I scored a spot right in front of him, and he did smell like he had been wearing the same clothes for along while without warshin’ em, but no matter. But some familiar looking fellas were sitting at a table earlier that evening, and those fellas ended up coming up on stage to help them play Blue Ridge mnts., Twas our portland friends Blitzen trapper!

Other things:

A guy at the gas station told sam he looked like some serial killer, and that if he looked more like mariah carey, he would be nicer to him(sam).

We were walking down hawthorne and sam says something to me, and i wasn’t sure of what he was saying, but then we walked past this guy and his family and i was like ‘oh ben gibbard’ and he was like ‘yeah, thats what i was saying’ … and then a on the way back home a decemberists song comes up on the mp3 player and i say ’sam , that was colin meloy we saw today, not ben gibbard’ . oops! Good thing we’re not the type to disturb, or else we would have made fools of ourselves ‘ ben gibbard, whats up !’

Ran into two guys i played soccer with in coos bay outside of a bar, completely random.
Ran into old blogger friend dustin r. and his pal noah z, also pretty random.

Went to Voodoo and got maple bars with bacon, the first time they actually had them when i’ve gone there.
There was a guy outside voodoo who was trying to gamble with people, he had three cards, one was red, the other two were black, all you had to do was pick the red card, he was terrible at it, i could guess it every time.

Picked up dr. dog-takers and leavers ep and avett brothers new one ‘the second gleam’ and i also got paul mccartneys-ram on vinyl for .50 cents.

A lot more went on, but i have a feeling you are getting tired of hearing about my travels, sam and i have a picture set coming soon, so look out!

Tim & Eric awesome show great job season three will be premiering on Sunday i believe.

Fleet dog

July 25, 2008

sam and i are seeing fleet foxes tomorrow at everyones favorite venue in portland, the doug fir. We are both extremely excited to say the least.I love ‘earthy’ music, which is a reason why i’m so drawn to bands like midlake. It’s something about the harmonizes mixed with lyrics that are set up like a story and the characters interactions with nature. Fleet foxes new album Is competing with the new dr. dog album-fate. Which has brought me to tears at how good it is. A lot more emotion went into that album than any past release by them. Wasn’t too sure if they could out due themselves, but they have.

David Wain from Stella and other misc. projects has been doing some shorts called wainy days. It’s a lot like stella, just in 3-5 minute episodes. try it out if you like ’slap-sticky’ comedy.

text from a friend

July 15, 2008

A text from my good friend michael read :

Sorry if i was weird on the phone, i was getting food and such and wiggers were talking shit

oops

You know when you are talking on aim, and you are speaking with two people. There is that little box in the lower right corner that tells you what people are saying to you when you have everything minimized. Well sometimes you read that little box and then you maximize the conversation window, and you respond, often times responding to the wrong person.

This can get you in lots of trouble. luckily for me, i didn’t accidentally tell my friend that i hate him. but i did accidentally tell my pal andrew what time me and another friend are hanging out. Here is how you get out of it:

(real conversation) ELOef: i’m just overwhelmed .
(fake conversation ) ELOef: like 11?
ELOef cats
ELOef: eating lettuce and throwing it up
ELOef: and then you say ‘ who the hell has been putting my relish on the floor? ‘
ELOef: you know what i mean ?
been there done that!

goals

July 14, 2008

well.

I’ve found myself in a bit of troublesome times. I didn’t intend to get here, i don’t think anybody does intend to get here, you gotta be a fool to intend to do such terrible things. But i figure a good portion of the troubles come from folks judging me on one sided judgments. Other people will hear some misconception about me from somebody who is upset at me, and then all of a sudden my image and my reputation is fucked because of it. We are all responsible of doing it. I know i can do the same thing, so my goal is to try to realize when i’m judging people on one-sided judgments. I’de be a hypocrite if i was to not make any effort in doing so. Please, if you can do the same, i’de be much obliged. and if you feel like you only know me from somebody elses point of view, then let me know, lets fix that. I’m a good man, and i try to be, but i’m human because at times i do not succeed.
