Robin P.
January 31, 2009
I’m very interested to see Robin Pecknold’s new haircut. I found a very small picture on his facebook, but unfortunately we are not friends so I can’t see it bigger. One of these days i’ll befriend Robin, and not just because he’s a good musician, but because we both have enormous collections of pog slammers, we both love pepsi blue and buried a secret stash in our backyards when we found out they wern’t makeing it anymore and we both ordered the chicken fried steak at Dennys thinking it was a piece of fried boneless chicken.

Beard Enthusiast

The Beard Revue deserves some publicity from Eric Richardson, man with the golden beard.

and while we are on the subject, here is a recent painting of a nicely bearded man I call Joesph.

Department of Cave Singers
January 31, 2009
Well, this was the third time i’ve gone up to Portland to see the cave singers. I was hoping that they would be co-headlining with The Department of Eagles, but unfortunately they were only opening. So they played for 30 minutes. They played 3 new songs, which sounded very promising.
The Department of Eagles came on next. They sound very good live, basically a lot like they sound on record. Singer/guitar player Daniel plays a mean guitar. Very abstract chord progressions along with some pretty melodies and a flawless voice. To be honest, I wouldn’t go up to see them again but I’m glad I saw them once.
I’m confused at why The Cave Singers played with The Department of Eagles, they are two completely different bands to me. I’m assuming the crowd was full of strict Pitchforkers who came to the show only to see DOE. Usually the folks who get their music taste from Pitchfork don’t go after the bands who only get a 6-8 point review. ( I do read pitchfork and I do enjoy it, but I still don’t trust it.)
Lamp
January 31, 2009
I bought a new lamp in portland. I got it at one of the coolest stores in portland called “presents of mind“. It’s filled mostly with merchandise from Local crafters. It’s got some of the most unique stuff you’ll find on Hawthorn. Especially cool if you’re an earthy type of person like I (not earthy as in hippy), plenty of owls and elk to go around.

The trees on the inside of the lamp shade glow through the outside. Thanks Meg for the Bonnie prince Billy picture (told you i framed it)

Little Joy
January 31, 2009
A nice little Gem of an album. They are called Little Joy. I downloaded this album last December to see if it would fit into my top music of 2008 list. Unfortunately I didn’t think much of it at first listen. But, I’ve listened to about 10 times the past 2 days (literal) and I absolutely love it. The singers Baritone mixed with the production value may remind you of a julian Casablancas (from the strokes) Rightfully so, Fabrizio, the drummer of the strokes, is a big part of the band, and his sexy GF sings on the record (beautiful voice). Produced by Noah Georgeson! This one is a keeper, please don’t abuse it.
ps/ Come beat the shit out of me if you don’t love this album after a few listens. (offer applies to: music lovers only and doesn’t apply to: people who already want to beat the shit out of me/liars/lions/larz ulrich.)
confidence booster

Hi Eric, I accidentally found you through YouTube and now myspace. I nice accidental find if I do say so myself. I live in Sendai, Japan and I’m opening up an acoustic venue/cafe next year. If you wanna tour in Japan I can help hook you up. Let me know.
I think i might get my act together and tour japan… Fuck careers. I’ll have one of those when i’m old, but as of right now it would be my dream to be good at playing music and to tour the country/world and be broke.
air-bud
January 29, 2009
One of life’s simple pleasures: i’m in the library and I see a lady walking her dog who looks a lot like air bud. The dog has got her tennis ball in her mouth just treking along with her owner. They probably just got done playing, the dog looked sweaty or wet. The dog was holding on to the ball like a little girl would hold onto her favorite doll. It’s just something that made me smile today. We call them life’s simple pleasures.
Do you have any of these that happened to you today? I’de like to hear.
Black teeth

New black lips track from their upcoming release 200 million thousand, for all you sloppy garage rockers. Sounds pretty good.
overhype?
January 28, 2009
I believe that the new Animal Collective is being a bit overly-hyped. If you believe it’s the best thing you’ve heard, i’m assuming you haven’t heard their masterpiece; Strawberry Jam…. Merriweather is good, but i feel it’s being more well received than strawberry jam or water curses and it’s hard too sit back and not say anything. So as jerry the cable man would say ‘ get things accumplished around da house’ .
