Huck Notari
June 29, 2009
Huck Notari came at a good time for me. A former member of the late Kitchen Syncopators (featuring the great Woody Pines); he has a handful of dates in Oregon in the next couple months alongside Mr. Pines. So, if you are close by, go check them out. His new album “Very Long Dream” is very raw and rugged and has hints of Michael Hurley (Armchair Boogie style). It’s beautiful.

‘Thriller’

You gotta be fucking nuts or a full blooded conservative if MJ hasn’t effected your life positively at some point. Definitely, I have some fond early memories with the man. I noticed on the Amazon.com bestsellers list, michael holds the top 13, and wilco is at number 14 (great job wilco, see you tuesday)! I thought it was funny that this prison in the philippines choreographs dances, opposed to other stereotypical prisoner activities (lifting weights, basketball, drinking potato vodka, smuggling drugs…) Some ‘tough’ guys, huh?

Avett Brothers acoustic performance.
I was very curious to find out what the avetts are like not on the stage because it’s equally important as the music. I found these pictures that i thought were nice.

If you ask me what I’ve been listening to for the past 3 days, I could only give you one answer: Kitty, Daisy and Lewis. I’ve been consuming this album like a cannibal after summer camp with Jim James. It’s fantastic. One bad thing about getting into this band right now; they are opening for coldplay… These two bands are nothing alike. I feel like this Kitty, Daisy and Lewis album cost almost nothing to produce, it’s very lo-fi and simplistic. Opposed to Coldplay’s albums that most likely cost 1000x more to produce. So, Portlanders, dont get your hopes up for seeing these guys at a nice low-key doug fir showing where they belong, you’ll have to go pack yourself into a huge sold out stadium with some binoculars and wonder why the hell people still listen to coldplay when they can’ even come close to topping their first two albums. (matter of opinion) Anyway, good album, go get it.
