This is Elvis the first day we got him (1995). The king was dethroned about a year ago this month, and we miss him.

vacation.

Turns out this isn’t a vacation to the Bahamas at all, it’s a muscian who just released a pretty good looking record.Pink Strat is the title of his debut. It seems hard to pin point any likenesses or influences with this album, and i like that. The one bad thing; you ever like a band that has a really generic name and you cant find any information on them? (islands, woods, sly & the family stone)

Our favorite spelunkers released a new song from their upcoming record ‘Welcome Joy’. I recall them playing this song live last time I saw them. It was defiantly a stand out tune and I hope it is an indicator of how the rest of the record will flow.

This is a clever little device. But it sort of takes the magic out of vinyl. What do you think?

today

July 14, 2009

Today I got the new Megafaun album (gather, form and fly). I’m prepping myself for the slightly repeatative crosby stills and nash comparisons once reviews come out. This album is definatly not what i expected; it holds a lot of diversity and the genre seems to varie from song to song. It has some very obscure instrumental tracks that seem out of place, but upon further listen, they go quite well with the rest of the album. It’s something new and unique and I expect good things from them. I’m curious of others opinions on the album. Go listen to it (find the rapidshare, or i can send the link to you) and let me know what you think. Furthermore, these gents got some fine looking beards these days (even longer than whats pictured down below)

thank you

I would like to thank J Tillman for putting out a really lovely record (Year in the kingdom: 2009). It will be out in late September and it’s defiantly something to grab on vinyl. It’s been too long since I’ve heard a record that seems so willing to sit you down, and get to know you before it fucks you. And when it does, it is soft and beautiful and nothing is ever regretted. I guess what i’m trying to say, is that the record is full of subtle emotion that gently grabs your soul and brings it to a place where love is simple and pain is always tolerable, and a place where ‘ everybody knows your name. It reminds me of the TV show Cheers. Not really, but maybe it has some Cheers undertones.

“These songs whisper loudly to slow the world down, to preserve a moment and all its emotions, whether they’re pleasant or– more likely—painful”

I’ve been listening to these guys.
